Suspected ragging in NIIS kills student from Balangir

Ipsit Nayak (15), a student of +2 1st year Science in the NIIS College, Jatni has been allegedly ragged and killed. His body was found floating in an artificial pond of a nearby stone quarry, a day after he went missing.

Parents of Nayak have alleged the death to be a clear pre-planned murder. "My son became a victim of ragging. Some of his rival seniors from Bihar insisted him to play with them, later murdered him and threw him in the pond," Rajendra Nayak, father of the victim has said. He has lodged a complaint in this regard at Janla police outpost demanding arrest of the accused.

Ipsit's mother Basanti Nayak blamed the College authority for failing to maintain friendly environment in the college. "The college staff abetted the crime. Why did the hostel authorities allow him to go out while it was raining," she asked. However, College principal Bhabani Sankan Rath refuted charges of ragging in the college.

Maternal Uncle of the victim, Ramachandra Purohit has alleged the death to be a murder and demanded proper inquiry in this connection.

A native of Balangir Town, Nayak was staying in hostel. Ipsit's friends informed that he went out of the college premises around 5 pm on 17th July while it was raining. But when he did not returned to the hostel the college authorities informed Janla police around 8pm about the missing. His body was fished out from the nearby artificial pond of a stone quarry, the next day.

Youth Congress Balangir wing has demanded a C.B.I inquiry of the alleged murder of Nayak. They have alleged that the student was killed by some Bihari Senior students as an act of ragging and the NIIS college authority is trying to suppress the case. DYC, Balangir has alleged that the college authority is trying to prove the murder to be an accident.

The ABVP Balangir unit has also demanded C.B.I inquiry and sent a demand note to the Chief Minister of Odisha through A.D.M Balangir.
