For the first time
in the history of Odishi dance, a piece of choreography of Odishi was performed
by 555 performers together on a single platform at the Kalinga Stadium in
Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India on 23rd December 2011.
Selected Odishi dancers from India and abroad performed this remarkable dance on the first day of the 8-day grand international festival of dance, organized by the Tourism and Culture department of Odisha in association with Odishi Research Centre (ORC) and US-based Indian performing Arts Promotion (IPAP).
Performance of such a huge number of dancers together, mesmerized the audience. To the astonishment, although the dance was presented by such a large number of dancers in concert, still it was a systematic one and without a miss from any of them which made spellbound a huge audience present in the venue.
The distinguished gathering included Odisha's Tourism and Culture minister Prafulla Samal and Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani.
The said
performance was an attempt to set a world record in Odishi. Fortunately
representatives of the Guinness World Records were also present to witness and
umpire various aspects of the performance and see whether the guidelines laid
down for the event fits to their requirement.
We congratulate all
the dancers and organizers to present such a historical event and wish them all
the best.
